Chilli peppers are very rich in antioxidants such as capsanthin which is responsible for the red colour, as well as sinapic acid, and ferulic acid. These antioxidants play a major role in fighting oxidative stress which in turn protects against chronic diseases. Some research even found that it can help slow down cancer, however, keep in mind that more studies still need to be done to determine this.
Mommy’s Corner:
For babies below 1 year of age, it is not recommended to add strong spices such as chilli powder into their food as they will not be able to tolerate it. After 1 year of age, you may use a very small amount and see if your child can handle it.
For pregnant women, it is generally safe to consume spicy food and add spicy seasoning such as chilli powder into food.
